R&D Manager - Santa Fe Springs, CA

Responsibilities

• Collaborates with Marketing and Sales to develop Innovation Products & Plans
• Also responsible to work effectively with Procurement, Finance, Production, Marketing, Sales, QC, & Operations Departments in the course of Product & Process Development.
• Leads New Product Development, Process Development, and Ingredient Technology efforts to develop and commercialize new and improved products, cost optimization and quality improvement.
• Manages a Project Portfolio to ensure attainment of business goals
• Ensures robust Experimentation/Design principles and Commercialization Processes to achieve project objectives and commercial requirements (manufacturing efficiency, stability, shelf life)
• Manages R&D technical personnel, including Priority Setting, Coaching and Skill Development
• Attends Sales Account Calls and makes Presentations as needed
• Develops and leads annual Cost Optimization Plans
• Develops and manages R&D Department budget, ensuring efficient utilization of resources and achievement of annual business plan
• Sources and visits possible suppliers and co-packers
• Any support duties as assigned

Qualifications

• BS Degree in Food Science or a related field
• 10 to 15 years working experience in a food plant
• Minimum 10 years experience in food R&D, with at least 5 years' experience leading technical professionals
• Knowledge of USDA and FDA.
• Advanced business degree, preferably culinary training (but not essential)
• Functional on Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Internet and email.
• Strong project management skills and excellent communication, both oral and written
• Detail-oriented, team player
